I’m a youth culture historian, picture researcher, vintage clothing aficionado, menswear design consultant, terminal record collecting geek, author and music obsessed nerd based in London.
A modern day clothes historian if you like. I focus on demystifying the myths of indie subcultures. Specializing in the visual racket and sartorial nuances of British underground music youth movements. This fascination with post war fashion, music and youth culture has led to creative canoodlings with Levis, April 77, Topman, ASOS, Selfridges, Oi Polloi and Beams Japan to name but a few.
What was the Scene In Between? A golden age in the 1980's, where mid 60's folk garage merged with late 70's punk rock in an unlikely sonic alliance that signified a brief return to diy culture. Largely brushed over, written out history in favour of the more familiar territories that bookend either side of the decade.
Here follows the blog. An extension of my book where i'll celebrate and excavate indie music subcultures of yore. Exploring the noise, looks and attitudes of which are frighteningly relevant today.
Get involved, be part of the scene, not part of the scenery! What was your scene in between? Send in your indie scene snaps, UK or USA as I'm planning an American volume entitled... A Scene In Between USA, focusing on the timespan 1981-90.
